5-year-old Chibok boy paralyzed after brutal Boko Haram attack healed

NIGERIA

A 5-year-old boy paralyzed after he was run over by Boko Haram militants with their motorcycle three years ago in the northeast Nigerian town of Chibok is walking after a corrective surgery in Dubai.

Ali Ahmadu was supported by a charity group based in Abuja, Dickens Sanomi Foundation and other individuals to raise $60,000 for his medical bill.
The Global Initiative For Peace, Love and Care (GIPLC), an NGO that appealed to the public for medical aid for the boy said the spine surgery was successful and the doctors said he can walk again.
“After seven days, Ali is walking and marching in the room, talking and making noise … He is under watch and rehabilitation so that when he gets back to Nigeria he can be reconnected with his society,” GIPLC coordinator Nuhu Kwajafa confirmed.
The boy started walking after spending 48 hours in the intensive care unit. He was sent to Dubai in August and is expected to spend three months.
Boko Haram, which is trying to create an Islamic state in the Lake Chad region that includes northeast Nigeria, has killed more than 20,000 people and caused over two million to flee their homes since 2009.
